Styling your outfits

Let's start styling your outfits, which means creating a specific look by integrating key elements or wearing your clothes in a distinct way.

There are a few things you can do to style your outfits, one of them is to get a nice-looking belt. When buying belts, keep in mind that you want to avoid getting belts that only go with a specific outfit. Instead, try to purchase at least one basic belt for various outfits, from relaxed get-togethers to formal events like weddings. You also shouldn´t wear a Luxurious belt for a casual meet-up with your friends. In fact you should not rely on luxury brands in general, remember that luxury brands do not automatically improve your style. The more people rely on them, the worse they tend to make them look.

Colors

Belts exist in many colors, but most of them can´t be worn with most of your outfits. You should not wear a green belt for a job interview, a black belt on the other hand, goes with every outfit or occasion. You can wear dark blue jeans a black T-shirt put a black belt on and there you have a nice fit. A brown belt would not complement that outfit as well as a black one, but it would be a different story, combined with a brown leather jacket. For me black and brown are both essential colors when it comes to belts, so make sure you have either or better yet both in your wardrobe.

Size

The size of a belt matters in both width and length. Thinner belts are typically considered more formal and often worn with dress pants, but they can also work well with casual outfits, adding a refined touch. Wider belts give a more laid-back vibe and are often paired with jeans and trousers. Length is equally important, though many belts come in a single size. If you get one, look if it fits properly with enough space to tuck through the first belt loop, but not so much that it hangs awkwardly. The average single-size belt ranges from 90-110cm (35-43 inches). Now get your measuring tape, wrap it right above your hip bones, and take note of the measurement. It is generally recommended to choose a size that is 5-10 cm larger than your hip measurement, so add up around 7cm to your size. In case you don´t fall into that category, don´t get one-sized belts online.  If you don´t have a soft measuring tape, get one asap. They are not expensive and can help you get a better understanding of how certain clothes will fit you, especially if your measurements fall outside the norm.

Where to find them

You can find understated belts at Zara priced at around $50. Their designs are simple but still appealing to the eye, they focus on leather belts, making them perfect for formal occasions too, which is exactly what we´re looking for. If you already own a conventional belt, and seek affordable, casual options, head to Pull&Bear or Bershka, where prices are around $12 per piece. For more unique designs, check out Jaded London or Urban Outfitters, though keep in mind that their belts are pricier, typically around $35 (Urban Outfitters) and $50 (Jaded London).
